Instructions:
With larger hook, ch2.
Rnd 1: 4sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join. Place marker in last sc. (4sc). Last sc is always 3rd sc of grp.
Rnd 2: 3sc in each sc. (12sc)
Rnd 3: 1sc in next sc, 3sc in next; *sc in next sc, 3sc in next; rep from * twice more. (20sc)
Rnd 4: sc in next 3sc, 3sc in next, *sc in next 4sc, 3sc in next; rep from * twice more. (28sc)
Rnd 5: sc in next 5sc, 3sc in next, *sc in next 6sc, 3sc in next; rep from * twice more (36sc)

Rnd 20: With smaller hook, in front lp only, sc in same sc as joining, sk 2sc, 5dc in next sc, sk 2sc, * sc, sk 2sc, 5dc in next sc, sk 2sc (shell made); rep from * around. Join to fisrt sc. Ch3, turn.
Rnd 21: Working on both lps from now on, 4dc in same sc as joining, sc in 3rd dc of shell; *sk 2sts, sc in next sc, sk 2sts, 5dc in sc; rep from * around. Join in top of beg ch-3 turn.
Next Rnd: Rep Rnd 21 until sides measure approx. 4 1/2" tall. At end of last row, join, turn.
Rnd 1 of lid: sl st to sc, ch3, working in front lps only, 2dc in same sc, sk 2 sts, sc, sk 2sts; *5dc in sc, sk 2 sts, sc, sk 2 sts; rep from * 4 times more, 3dc in next sc, turn, working in free lps from beg of rnd: 2dc in same sc, sk 2sts, sc, sk 2 sts, *5dc in sc, sk 2 sts, sc, sk 2sts; rep from * 4 times more, 2dc in same sc as beg 3dc; join to top of beg ch3.
Rnd 2: ch1, sc, sk 2 sts, 5dc in sc, sk 2 sts, *sc, sk 2sts, 5dc in sc, sk 2 sts; rep from * 10 times more, join in beg sc. Do not turn.
Rnd 3: ch3, 4dc in same sc, sk 2 sts, sc, *sk 2 sts, 5dc in sc, sk 2 sts, sc; rep from * around, join to top of beg ch3.
Rnd 4: sl st 3rd dc of shell, ch1, sc, sk 2 sts, 5dc in sc, sk 2 sts, *sc, sk 2 sts, 5dc in sc, sk 2 sts; rep from * around, join to first sc.
Rnd 5: Rep Rnds 3 & 4 until lid is same length as box. End with Rnd 3. Slid board for lid inside.
Next Rnd: sl st to 3rd dc of shell, ch1, sc, working thru both sides of rnd, *sk 2 sc, 5dc in shell, sk 2 sts, sc; rep from * 4 times more, sk 2 sts, 5 dc in sc, sk 2 sts, sc in 3rd dc of shell, turn.
Last Row: Ch3, 2dc in same sc, *sk 2 sts, sc, sk 2 sts, 5dc in sc, rep from * once more, ch5, sc in 3rd dc of next shell, *sk 2 sts, 5dc in sc, sk 2 sts, sc; rep from * once more, sk 2 sts, 3dc in last sc. Finish off & weave in ends.
Make Button:
Ch2.
Rnd 1: 6sc in 2nd ch from hook (6sc)
Rnd 2: ch1, 2sc in each sc. (12sc)
Rnd 3: ch1, sc in each sc (12 sc). Stuff button with scraps of yarn & continue stuffing as work progresses.
Rnd 4: ch1, *dec 1sc over next 2sc, rep from * around (6sc)
Rnd 5: ch1, *dec 1sc over next 2sc, rep from * around (3sc). Fasten off. Leave a 6" tail end for sewing button to box.
Finishing:
Cut cardboard as per diagram, to form box. Cut your piece of material the same way. Glue material to box. Shape cardboard to form box. Fold along dotted lines, glue flaps to box sides.
Slide box inside crochet covering. A little glue on each shell will hold box inside covering. Sew button to front of box.
